Agricultural Plastic Packaging in Morocco:
The Crate That Protects Your Crops
In just a few years, Morocco has risen to become one of the world’s leading exporters of fruits, vegetables, and seafood. Behind every pallet of citrus fruits shipped to Europe and every crate of tomatoes loaded at Tanger Med lies a link in the chain that rarely gets noticed: agricultural plastic packaging. Yet it is this packaging that determines whether a harvest arrives intact—or damaged—at the other end of the supply chain.
Morocco, a rapidly rising agricultural and fishing power
The figures speak for themselves. During the 2024–2025 season, Moroccan fruit and vegetable exports reached approximately 1.6 million metric tons, an increase of nearly 18% compared to the previous season. The European Union and the United Kingdom alone account for nearly 86% of the volume, with sub-Saharan Africa rounding out the picture.
Quelques filières tirent cette croissance :
- La tomate, produit phare, avec de l’ordre de 649 000 tonnes exportées ;
- Les A few sectors are driving this growth:
agrumes (oranges, clémentines, mandarines), autour de 597 000 tonnes ;
Why Plastic Packaging Is Strategic for the Industry
A crate is never “just a crate.” For a fresh product destined to travel 2,000 km, it fulfills several purposes at once:
Protecting the harvest from impact. A rigid, ventilated agricultural crate prevents fruit from being crushed and limits post-harvest losses, which directly impact the exporter’s profit margin.
Maintaining the cold chain. Stackable and ventilated, plastic crates allow cold air to circulate within refrigerated containers (reefers), which are essential for fruits, vegetables, and seafood alike.
Meeting standards. European requirements for hygiene, traceability, and sustainability are becoming stricter. A food-grade plastic container—washable and reusable—meets these criteria far better than single-use packaging.
Optimizing logistics. Standardized dimensions, stackability, and reduced weight: every centimeter and every kilogram counts when loading a truck bound for Tangier Med or a container bound for Rotterdam.
In other words, the right packaging doesn’t “cost” anything—it protects revenue

Sustainability and the Circular Economy: Packaging That Comes Back
Engineering plastics have an advantage that single-use packaging will never have: they’re durable and can be reused, campaign after campaign. And at the end of their life cycle, they can be recycled.
This is at the heart of our approach: our production process is closely linked to sustainable development and material recycling. We even offer a service to collect end-of-life products to create new, fully recycled items. This circular economy approach meets the growing expectations of European markets regarding environmental traceability.
agne.
